12 Questions to ask your wedding photographer before hiring them

Let’s be really honest, weddings, whether they’re big traditional weddings, microweddings, or even elopements, can be expensive. They’re also a once in a lifetime experience that you want to remember forever. So when it comes to hiring your wedding vendors, especially your photographer, here are some important questions to ask before you sign the dotted line: 

Do you have liability insurance? 

What happens if you’re sick or have an emergency that comes up on our big day? 

Do you have a contract? 

Can we look at some full galleries from weddings and/or engagement shoots you’ve done in the past? 

How often will we hear from you between now and the wedding? 

How many weddings/elopements have you photographed? 

Have you worked with our venue (or other vendors)? 

Do you have a preferred vendor list? 

Do you offer wedding day timelines? Or if you have or are planning to have a wedding planner/coordinator - Would you be willing to collaborate with our wedding planner/coordinator on creating our wedding day timeline? 

Do you offer custom packages? - Necessary if you want something out of the box that doesn’t completely fit their listed packages.

What are your values? - This one is hopefully listed on their website, but just in case, it’s always great to know who you’re working with. 

Do you offer payment plans? 

Bonus: 

Questions to ask yourself when hiring your wedding/elopement photographer: 

Do they (the photographer) seem like someone you would want to hang out with for an entire day? 

Do their values align with yours? 

Asking these questions can be huge when it comes to making sure you get the right photographer whether you’re booking an engagement session, wedding/microwedding, or elopement package. Your wedding day is one of the best days of your life, so you deserve to have the right fit when it comes to your wedding vendors.
