How many hours of wedding photography coverage do you really need?

Deciding how much wedding photography coverage you need can be challenging. Before you decide on a package here are some things to consider.

How do you want to celebrate your love story?
If you’re eloping at the courthouse, maybe a couple of hours of coverage for portraits and the ceremony is plenty. If you’re wanting to embark on a grand adventure and hike to a remote area in the mountains and recite vows at sunrise or fly a helicopter to a glacier in Alaska (manifesting this for one of my future couples), maybe an entire day (and then some) of coverage is what you need. If you’re hosting a microwedding with a hodge-podge of traditions that matter to you, you could want anywhere from four-eight hours of coverage.
Does your photographer offer complimentary engagement sessions or boudoir sessions if you book a certain amount of coverage?
Some packages are designed to give you the most bang for your buck. You may not think you need eight hours of coverage, but the complimentary engagement session may just make it worth it to go all in on the bigger package. If your photographer doesn’t have a package that includes an engagement session with fewer hours, you can always ask if they offer custom packages.
What important moments do you want photographed on your big day?

Getting ready with your absolute best friends, or even with your partner, exchanging private vows, dancing the night away, or saying cheers while your dad tears off the sleeves of his dress shirt and your friends wear your linen napkins as headbands to embrace, “mountain casual.” The details that you chose with a nod to your love story, and how beautifully your vendors made them all come together. These are just a few of the things you might want to capture on your wedding day.

So how do you ultimately decide if you're still unsure?
Schedule a consultation with your future microwedding or elopement photographer and talk about your vision with them. Once they understand your vision, they can help you decide just how much coverage you might need if you’re still unsure!
